There are huge chunks of data floating over the internet. It’s upon us how we perceive and build our perspective around that information. Filter bubble or more precisely, an echo chamber is our personal zone of information, which is made up of our previous or current interests. It is basically our chamber of information where we get surrounded by content related to our interest. It can be both beneficial as well as hazardous depending on our perspective.

The algorithm basically sorts and filters the content according to our recent content and interests and builds a bubble surround by similar information or data. It proves to be a handy tool when sorting our interest and searching for related content in a short time but can prove to be troublesome if used otherwise. It can be used to polarise the notion of the people and build a particular idealogy. The concept of a filter bubble can provide more relevant topics and information and direct the right information to us if used positively. Take, for example, a search engine. A search engine searches a result according to the data we feed. Later, when we check our feeds, we often find that new and fresh topics pop up related to the previous topic we’ve searched. This is algorithm is particularly generates a circle of likewise data floating around and gathers them around us. This can harm a person’s tolerance ability and refrain them from hearing others’ perspectives.

We can amend the current scenario by making the move ourselves. Rather than sticking to one particular notion, we can consider hovering and listen to different perceptions, topics, and ideas. This way we can have a mixed surrounding of information. We can also provide proper feedback to the system when we find irrelevant content or can simply remove them from our feeds. Regular cleaning of our feeds can help improve the algorithm. We can suggest that they specify two different sections for personal feeds and another section for unbiased and unsorted information at the developer end.
